The Botticellis: Letting the waves take them

Four years is a long time to craft a debut album, but it's not like The Botticellis haven't given us a glimpse of what they can do— what with two EPs and multiple live shows. As the newest members to the Antenna Farm label (something Alexi Glickman admits happened because, "they were the only ones that made the effort to come to our Outer Richmond shows") The Botticellis are primed to launch their '70s infused pop, California surf-style music. We caught up with them to discuss Old Home Movies and the influence of surfing.

The Horrors' SF debut

Adored by adolescents striving for darkness, and appreciated by hipsters bored with nice, indie rock, The Horrors with their glam, garage, punk rock music, along with their eccentric 60's, goth fashion, have earned immediate gratification. With abusive performances and a banned from MTV music video, the threat and allure of The Horrors is expected to outlast the typical buzz band.

Fighting to save alternative music.

Aaron Axelsen may have been blessed with golden ears. He's got a knack for finding good music. Green Day, Coldplay, Radiohead and Muse are just a few of the bands that he's help bring to the airwaves. But his efforts don't stop there. The Live 105 music director wears many hats, aside from booking bands for the uber-hip BFD, Axelsen runs the indie-friendly Popscene every Thursday night. More importantly, Axelsen is a huge advocate for local music, just ask Papa Roach, the Lovemakers and Thriving Ivory.

Laptop mightier than the sword

You've seen his hilarious music videos for "Signing Emo" and "Download This Song." You've read his comic strip. MC Lars is everywhere. Blending high-energy beats, poignant lyrics (often targeted at the corporate music regime) and an all-American smile, the king of post-punk laptop rap is somewhat of a pop culture commentator with a knack for making you think while you dance. This is MC Lars.

For more info visit: www.mclars.com
