A gang of unapologetic rockers, American Drag is a kicking live band with the songs to match. American Drag combines the classic rock attitude of the Black Crowes, the song craft of Tom Petty and the experimental edge of the Mars Volta to take audiences anywhere-from anthem rock to full on prog-rock jams. Austin WillacyRaised on blues, soul, old school r&b and 70s era rock, Willacy fuses the genres unlike others before him. His lyrics and his voice alternately soothe and savage their way through a myriad of emotional landscapes with breathtaking ease and efficacy. BirdmonsterSince the summer of 2004, Birdmonster has brought their epic, catchy brand of rock to dozens of Bay Area venues, notably the Great American Music Hall, Cafe Du Nord, and Bottom of the Hill. Part Bruce Springsteen, part Fugazi, Birdmonster has developed their own style of indie rock. In the end, Birdmonster does "more in three songs than most bands can manage in a full-length album," says Performer's Rian Rochford. "This band is on the verge of explosion." Brad Wolfe and the MoonBrad Wolfe and the Moon recently released their debut album to a sold out audience at the Great American Music Hall in SF. Since then, they have been featured on KGO, KFOG, and highlighted for ten weeks on Alice 97.3's Hooman Radio. Brad was deemed "one of the 25 most interesting people in the San Francisco Bay Area you've never heard of" by Tribe.net and is also co-founder of the Sunbeam Foundation, a Bay Area non-profit organization that funds research for childhood bone cancer. BrayBray explodes onto the scene with infectious grooves, irresistible magnetism, and pure primal energy. His bouyant songs bring to mind influences like Bowie and contemporaries like Kravitz. Having just returned from a French tour which included dates at the world famous House of Live in Paris and the Festival des Musiques in Champagne, Bray is set to take the world by storm with the HOT new album "Then one Saturday," due this winter. Katie JayBorn in the San Francisco Bay Area, found her love of singing by sneaking into bars at the age of 17 to sing at open mics. She became known for her "impeccable chops" (Panartist.com) and is compared in sound and emotion to Jeff Buckley and Fiona Apple. Keep your eyes open for this rising star. Katie Jay is going to touch the world. Keith VaronWhen the 22-year old singer-songwriter from Danville, California, pours his soul out into the audience one can not help but pay attention. The passion that fills his voice throughout every minute of each song tells you that Keith Varon is someone to watch for in the years to come. His song "Can't Breathe" gave the teenage pop culture something to rave about after watching Laguna Beach's Stephen and L.C. make out to his song. Now titled "the Make-Out" song Keith has been riding the wave ever since! KiffKiff's classic song-writing and soulful, pop-rock hooks have been called "stunning" by SF Weekly and compared to "Maroon 5 w/ a dose of Stevie Wonder" by SF Examiner. "Now" (the lead track on his second, self-produced LP, "You Can't Keep it Down") is case in point. The new release spans from the raw, groove-inflected "Now" to intimate ballads like "Starting Line" and rock anthems like "Give it Up." Hear why several of Kiff's new songs have been awarded 5-stars by GarageBand and featured on Clear Channel's hot new artist buzz pages. KingstreetKingstreet's musical irreverence and respective gambling problems don't tarnish their command of the almighty hook. Having shared bills with Gavin DeGraw, 3 Doors Down, Jessica Simpson, Nickelback, Puddle Of Mudd, Buckethead, & Bob Guiney (The Bachelor), it is clear they are doing something right. They've been featured on the WB's Summerland, One Tree Hill, received radio play XM Satellite Radio, Alice 94.5, Live105 & KFOG 104.5, served as KFOG's featured artist '04, and KFOG's Compilation CD 2004. Little Yellow PerfectLittle Yellow Perfect plays dance music. Little Yellow Perfect plays rock music. Little Yellow Perfect plays through fog. Little Yellow Perfect deserves your love. Megan SlankardWhen Megan Slankard appeared on The Learning Channel show What Not To Wear, it was the comments of Dire Straits founder David Knopfler that meant the most when he said Megan's music is "in the tradition of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell." Knopfler found Megan on the internet and brought her to England to open for him in May. Megan's first two CDs have sold in excess of 13,000 copies and her new limited edition ep, A Little Extra Sun, is available at Cdbaby.com PetracovichThe music of Petracovich is a low-fi, dreamy experience of intimate vocals, crafted songs and the introspective production of muffled beats and textures. Her live show is eye-closingly captivating, with Peters on 2 keyboards, a bell-set, laptop and vocals and Heather Houseman usually accompanying on cello. Often compared to Sparklehorse and Aimee Mann, Peters subtly weaves her leanings toward the grainy vibrations of acoustic sounds and the floating textures of electronic ambience. Smith PointFormed in 2002, Smith Point represents the new SF rock scene: energetic live shows, melodies worth singing, and rhythms worth moving to. The band recently gained national exposure with songs prominently featured on the WB's cult hit "One Tree Hill" and CBS's "Guiding Light". Smith Point will be kicking off 2006 with a much-anticipated new EP, which is currently in production. Timothy DanielTimothy Daniel draws from an unconventional sense of structure, progression, and arrangement drawing comparisons to the likes of Duncan Sheik, Fiona Apple, John Mayer, and David Bowie. His cleverly crafted lyrics are delivered over plush blankets of shimmering harmony and lush string arrangements. The clean and sizable production is well grounded by some of the most inventive songwriting and guitar work on the pop music scene today. TomihiraTomihira is a SF-based quartet who started playing live in late 2004. Despite the band's relatively new presence on the live circuit, Tomihira's past can be traced back many years. Dean, the band's songwriter, started recording songs in the early 90s and never stopped. With the meeting of drummer Markkus Rovito in 2002, guitarist Jeff Kay in the summer of '05, and the recent recruitment of bassist Mark Pantoja, Tomihira's sound is growing faster and sonically broader than ever could be expected. A full-length album called 'PLAY DEAD' drops January '06. Victoria GeorgeThis Marin County California Native has been hailed both for her beautiful voice and clever songwriting ability, invoking the unbridled range and tone of such artist as Bonnie Raitt and Sheryl Crow. Her music is a sweet blend of Americana songwriting with a rock edge. In May 05 she released her debut EP Far as I'm Concerned and is currently recording her full-length album. Zachary Ross & Desolation AngelsZachary Ross' modern-vintage soul sounds wrap you up in a warm blanket in front of a glowing fire, suddenly you feel a hot whisper in your ear, you're getting kind of...kind of aroused...you're feeling naked, vulnerable...and you're loving every minute of it. Fueled by Ross' lilting, smoke & honey voice and his non-standard approach to songwriting, this "don't call it neo-soul" outfit is full of surprises. |
